It was revealed by Bruins insider Jimmy Murphy that he was told that Jacobs has taken this personally when Swayman spoke out about how he views himself as a goaltender in the NHL who has an opportunity to set the table in terms of future goaltenders salaries and how he understands the business side of the NHL as he is a business student from the University of Maine.
It's been well known for years that Jacobs is a notoriously frugal owner who would rather not pay the bigger salaries. Time and time again the Bruins have had to bend but also had players bend closer to the number the Bruins wanted all in the name of team building to help acquire more players.
Swayman has spoken about his experience in arbitration last summer and it was clear by his agent Lewis Gross, that they would not go down that road again and do a full negotiation based on comparable and his overall play which had been exceptional last year.
Rumors have been swirling around the web in terms of the number that he is looking for which is between 9.5 and $10 million per season as he would like to model his contract around the Charlie McAvoy deal. It's also been reported that the Bruins had been looking between $6 million per season to 8 million per season which led to the comments yesterday by Bruins president Cam Neely.
This will be a fascinating ending weather it's to a new contract and all parties can dial down the rhetoric or the worst-case scenario which would be a trade from the Bruins which would leave them without either of their tandem that was seen as one of the best tandems in the NHL.
