Morgan Geekie returns, and Jeremy Swayman's start is reshaping the Boston Bruins' plans for the Detroit Red Wings.

Boston is back at TD Garden Tuesday after a day off, riding Sunday's tight 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. That win pushed the Bruins to 25-19-2 and kept their recent surge alive.
Marco Sturm made two subtle lineup moves heading into this one, and both matter. One is up front, where Geekie is officially back after leaving Saturday's Rangers game early for a family matter.
NHL.com reported Geekie missed the Penguins game, and Michael Eyssimont filled the spot, with Sturm saying,
«Like I said [Saturday], everything is fine, but we respect his privacy.»
That privacy is now a happy story, baby Max arrived Saturday.
The second change is in net, because the Bruins are handing the crease to Swayman tonight. Daily Faceoff listed him as the confirmed starter against Detroit, even after Korpisalo's 27-save shutout Sunday.

Morgan Geekie return and Jeremy Swayman start set the tone

As a fan, I like the calm logic here. Reward Korpisalo, but lean on your top guy in a tougher matchup.
Detroit comes in sitting atop the Atlantic with 60 points, while Boston sits on 52 points, tied with Buffalo in the division pack. Two points tonight would move the Bruins' math in a hurry.
With Geekie back, Eyssimont looks like the odd man out, which is a credit to how Geekie has produced. NHL.com noted he leads Boston with 25 goals, and that finishing touch changes how opponents defend the slot.
Swayman getting the nod is also about style. Detroit attacks off movement and second looks, and Swayman's ability to track through traffic can keep rebounds from turning into chaos.
Korpisalo still deserves credit for earning trust back with that shutout, and it should keep the rotation honest. If Boston gets solid goaltending from both, Sturm suddenly has options instead of worries.
Now the Bruins just have to cash it in, because nights like Tuesday are where playoff races swing.
