Morgan Geekie and Team Canada's roster hope took a rough turn after Bo Horvat's injury scare cooled off.

Geekie did not make Canada's official Olympic roster, but he landed on the omissions list, the emergency group you keep on speed dial. That status keeps the door cracked, even if it is barely.
On Thursday, that door looked like it might swing open. Bo Horvat left his game in the third period, and the early visuals sparked real concern about his availability. With Horvat in the Olympic forward mix, the speculation started immediately.

Morgan Geekie hopes shrink as Bo Horvat heals

As a Bruins fan, I felt like this could be Geekie's chance to make the roster.
By Friday, the buzz shifted. Pierre LeBrun reported that Horvat's injury does not sound too serious, and it should not affect Olympic implications for Canada. That is great news for Team Canada, but it drags the Geekie storyline back to waiting mode.
Here is the part that matters for Boston. When you are on the omissions list, you are not chasing a fair fight, you are chasing a misfortune. It usually takes an injury, a setback in rehab, or a surprise withdrawal to create a true opening.
That is why this feels like a turn for the worse. The Horvat scare was the cleanest, most realistic path for Geekie to slide into a needed forward spot, and now that path looks closed.
It does not mean Geekie is out forever. Olympic rosters can change quickly, and depth calls happen when nobody expects them. But the most immediate chance, the one everyone was watching, has cooled off within a day.
Now Geekie's job is the same as always, play well for the Boston Bruins and force the conversation to stay alive. If Canada needs a replacement later, he wants his name to feel obvious, not optimistic.
