The other day the Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals completed a trade that would send Andrew Mangiapane to the Washington Capitals and the Flames would acquire a 2025 2nd round pick which was originally the Colorado Avalanche's pick.
Andrew Mangiapane signed a three-year contract in 2022-23 with an AAV of $5.8 million which expiries in 2024-25. It was reported that the reason for the Flames trading Mangiapane to clear some cap space.
According to a Bruins insider he believes that the reason the Flames are trying to clear cap space is to sign Boston Bruins free agent Jake Debrusk.
It was reported that Jake DeBrusk and the Boston Bruins haven't made any progress in contract talks, and that DeBrusk will be hitting the free agent market.
