A surprise trade has been announced between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers that could involve Mika Zibanejad and Matthew Poitras.

Heading into the playoffs this year, the New York Rangers were heavy favourites to win the Stanley Cup, but the power house Florida Panthers ended up knocking them out in 6 games, just like they did against the Boston Bruins.

This has sparked some rumours that the Rangers GM might look to make a blockbuster trade with one of their star players.

Reports have suggested that Zibanejad could be on his way out and has been linked to the Boston Bruins as they have been needing a number one center ever since Patrice Bergeron retired last year.

Charlie Coyle ended up filling in for Bergeron this year and wasn't horrible, but if the Bruins want another chance at going for a Stanley Cup, they need go out and acquire a true number one center.

An NHL insider stated that the Bruins may be interested in trading a first-round pick along with a promising young player like John Beecher or Matthew Poitras for Mika Zibanejad.

Lyle wrote «The Bruins could use Ullmark as a trade chip to add a physical forward or defenseman that could be included in a package deal for Zibanejad. They could include their 2025 or 2026 first-round pick in the package and one or two prospects or a promising youngster like John Beecher or Matthew Poitras.»

Acquiring someone like Zibanejad could be game changing for the Bruins, a true number one center who can still produce and is one of the best passers in the league. He currently has six years left on his $8.5 million contract which the Bruins would be able to afford but has a full NMC.
