The 28-year-old right shot defenseman who was in the prime of his career currently holds a $7.5 million cap hit for his final year of his contract. The Panthers are looking for cap relief and may be willing to move on from their long-time player as he holds value.
After recovering from his injury throughout the season, he played 51 games, scored four goals with 14 assists and had eighteen points but was a + 27. He played all 24 games in the playoffs and scored one goal with five assists for six points and was a + 4.
If Florida's general manager Bill Zito would like to move from him, general manager Don Sweeney would call him to see what it would take to pry him from the Panthers and have him as a fixture on the Bruins lineup. Even though he had seen some decline in his play, a defenseman of his caliber certainly would give the bruins a boost and could land a new long-term deal.
The Bruins may have an option to pluck him from the Panthers.
