Insider reveals another set back on the Florida Panthers due to injury

In the aftermath of a disappointing Game 5 loss, Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice addressed the media, shedding light on the significant injuries plaguing two of his star players, Matthew Tkachuk and Aaron Ekblad.

The duo is expected to undergo surgery and their availability for the start of the 2023-24 season remains uncertain at this early stage.

Adding to the injury concerns, ESPN's respected hockey analyst Kevin Weekes took to Twitter on Wednesday to reveal another setback for the Panthers. This time, it involves defenseman Brandon Montour, who may also require surgery during the offseason.

According to Weekes, Montour has been battling through a torn labrum in his shoulder, a condition that typically necessitates surgery and carries a recovery period of approximately three months. Consequently, depending on the timing of Montour's surgical intervention, his participation in the beginning of the upcoming season could be in jeopardy.


In his tweet, Weekes commended Montour for a remarkable campaign, characterized by outstanding achievements and numerous franchise records set by the dynamic defenseman from the Florida Panthers.



Despite playing with the aforementioned shoulder injury, Montour amassed an impressive 73 points (16 goals, 57 assists) in 80 regular-season games.

In addition, he accumulated 107 penalty minutes and boasted a plus-nine rating. Montour's exceptional contributions extended into the playoffs, where he tallied an additional 13 points in 21 games.

Notably, Montour's 73-point haul during the regular season surpassed the previous record held by Keith Yandle, who registered 62 points during the 2018-19 campaign, firmly cementing Montour's name in the Panthers' history books as the highest-scoring defenseman.

Given the current circumstances, it is plausible that there may be other undisclosed injuries affecting the Panthers' roster. The potential absence of three key players as the 2023-24 season commences undoubtedly poses a worrisome situation for the team.

In order to rebound strongly and aim for a return to the Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers will need to navigate this challenging setback and strive for a robust start to the upcoming campaign
