NHL issues an update on Kozari after being stretchered off the ice

During the Penguins-Lightning game, a frightening incident involving referee Steve Kozari shook the hockey world.

In a collision with Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Haydn Fleury, Kozari was rendered unconscious and subsequently transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital.

The NHL has now provided an official update on Kozari's condition. Despite the severity of the collision, Kozari is conscious, alert, and has full use of all his extremities. The league anticipates a complete recovery for the veteran official.

The incident occurred in the third period of Saturday's game when Kozari collided with Fleury at center ice. The impact caused Kozari to lose consciousness immediately, leaving him vulnerable as he fell to the ice, his head striking hard.
