17-year NHL veteran officially calls it a career after announcement
A 17-year NHL veteran has officially called it a career in a recent announcement.
Colorado Avalanche's Andrew Cogliano has announced that he will be retiring from the NHL after 17-years in the league. Cogliano was set to become a free agent this year, but decided to retire and accept a role in the Avalanche's organization as a player development and scouting.
Cogliano won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, and just announced his retirement in an emotional statement.
The game of hockey has given me and my family so much and I am grateful for every moment. I am blessed to have played for so long with some great organizations and amazing teammates. I will miss being with the guys in the dressing room and battling for each other on the ice every night but it's time to move on. Thank you to everyone I ever played with, played for and all the great fans for all of their support. I am excited to start my new chapter in the front office.
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2005, Cogliano would play in all 82 games during his rookie season, and would end up developing into a really solid two-way player.
Cogliano was never a game-changing type of player, but was always a solid and depth player and consistent.
At the age of 37 Cogliano retires with 1,294 games under his belt and even had an ironman streak last for 11 seasons until he got suspended.
Thank you Cogs for continuously making an impact on and off the ice.
Congratulations on an outstanding career.
Congratulations to Cogliano on his retirement!
