The Arizona Coyotes have taken the decision to place forward Alex Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers in order to terminate his contract.

This action comes only four days after Galchenyuk's arrest and subsequent charges by the Scottsdale Police Department.
At the age of 29, Galchenyuk had recently signed a one-year contract with a salary of $775,000, which is the league minimum, on July 1st.

However, an incident that occurred on July 9th has resulted in him facing multiple charges. Following Galchenyuk's placement on waivers, reporter Katie Strang from The Athletic revealed in the afternoon that the player is now confronting charges such as private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, resisting arrest, and threatening or intimidating.

Additionally, ESPN's Greg Wyshynski reported earlier in the day that the Coyotes were previously unaware of an "off-ice situation" involving Galchenyuk. Regarding the hit-and-run incident, Strang mentioned that the police stated there were no injuries, only property damage.

Since being drafted as the third overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 draft, Galchenyuk has encountered difficulties in finding a stable position in the NHL. While his initial years in the league were fruitful, with 108 goals and 255 points in 418 games, he was eventually traded to the Coyotes in June 2018 as part of a deal that sent Max Domi to the Canadiens.

Since then, Galchenyuk has been traded four times and has signed four contracts as a free agent.
His tenure in the desert lasted only one season before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in June 2019, along with Pierre-Oliver Joseph, in exchange for Phil Kessel and other assets.
