While rumours continue to swirl around the Boston Bruins and whether they'll sign Ilya Kovalchuk or re-sign Rick Nash, general manager Don Sweeney locked up one of his young defenseman.
The Bruins and Sweeney announced that they've re-signed Matt Grzelcyk to a two year deal with an AAV of $1.4million.
The Boston native really stepped up this season and played in 61 games while registering 15 points and a +21 rating, third best on the team.
Grzelcyk, who's still just 24 years old, held his own in the playoffs as well and didn't look out of place.
Boston has been looking to add another top tier left handed defenseman, so Grzelcyk might actually start the season as a 7th defenseman if that proves true.
Either way, the youngster earned his two year extension.
