The Oilers took to social media this afternoon that they have signed veteran forward Mike Hoffman to a professional tryout contract.
Mike Hoffman was one of the top free agents available left on the market without a contract, but now he is committed to the Edmonton Oilers, and hopes to earn an actual contract out of this PTO to keep his NHL dream alive.
Last year, Mike Hoffman had 10 goals, 13 assists for 23 points in 66 games spent with a really bad San Jose team. Hoffman has had multiple down years recently, but is hoping to have a bounce back year with the Oilers this year.
This is a low risk high reward for the Edmonton Oilers as if it doesn't workout they will just release him from his PTO, but if he can return to form, this could be a solid signing by the Oilers as he has scored 20+ goals in 6 different years and even scored 36 goals in 2018-19 with the Florida Panthers.
