Boston Bruins general manager DonSweeney is never one to shy away from making a trade deadline deal.
This year he hooked up with the Minnesota Wild and landed Charlie Coyle, however it seems he was trying to do something bigger.
According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Sweeney came extremely close to landing veteran Eric Staal.
While Sweeney sent over Ryan Donato and a 5th round pick for Coyle, Sweeney was willing to send over Sean Kuraly and the Bruins' 2019 first round pick for Staal.
Wild GM PaulFenton didn't feel it was enough and ended up signing Staal to an extension instead.
Would this have been a good trade for the Bruins' cup run?
