In what has been a historic season filled with milestones, the Bruins' tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman achieved an NHL first.
The First of Its Kind
With the 2022-23 regular season now complete, they have officially been awarded the William M. Jennings Trophy as Boston gave up a league-low 177 goals against (Hurricanes in 2nd with 213).
Not only that but Ullmark and Swayman have also become the first goalie duo in NHL history to accomplish a specific - and quite remarkable - feat. As per NHL Public Relations:
The Bruins became the first team in NHL history to feature both a 40-win and a 20-win goaltender. The 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning (Andrei Vasilevskiy: 39, Louis Domingue: 21) and 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings (Chris Osgood: 39, Mike Vernon: 21) – who previously shared the single-season wins record – were the closest prior teams to achieving the feat.
Ullmark, 29, finished the season ranked first among all NHL goaltenders in wins (40-6-1), GAA (1.89) and SV% (.938) and will most likely take home the Vezina Trophy after the season, as well.
While Swayman bounced back after struggling early on in the year as the 24-year-old ended his season with a 24-6-4 record, a 2.21 GAA and a .922 SV%.
