Anaheim Ducks star has emerged as a serious trade candidate for the Boston Bruins
The Boston Bruins are a team that needs help in the top six, and GM Don Sweeney has mentioned that they would be active in the trade market.
The team isn't a finished product by any means.
Especially in the top six, where players like Pavel Zacha, and Elias Lindholm need help.
Morgan Geekie and Justin Brazeau are two players who have filled the gaps of the Bruins' needs, but are they the answer?
Someone like Trevor Zegras is available, could very well be it.
According to rumors, the Bruins have expressed interest in Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras.
Zegras is still playing on his last contract, a bridge deal that pays him $5.75 Million AAV. But he's failed to produce up to expectations with only 3 points( 1 G, 2 A) in 14 games this season.
Could he be a fit for Jim Montgomery's system here in Boston?
Zegras has found his production declining, due to injuries and maybe a change of scenery with proven veterans could revitalize his game. With Elias Lindholm, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak, they could add another weapon to the arsenal.
In the meantime, Zegras has attempted to keep himself relevant, as there are conflicting reports of his market status and availability.
He's now initiating physical contact, establishing body position to win 50/50 pucks, and remaining diligent to his assignment in defensive zone coverage while not surrendering the inside lanes.
"One hundred percent," Zegras said when asked if his attention to detail and physical play was an area of focus this season. "I mean, I watch a lot of hockey, and I feel like if you want to be a part of a winning team, you gotta do all the small things right all the time. Something that I never was, as a centerman, (a) physical, puck on stick (player), and I think when (Cronin) was hired, (his goal) was to teach me the defensive side of the game.
The cost to acquire Zegras could be monumental, as he won't come cheap from the Anaheim Ducks.
There are multiple trade proposals across the net, for the controversial winger which would send multiple prospects for Zegras to the Ducks.
Assuming that they are asking a lot, it could see the Bruins send players like Georgii Merkulov, or Fabian Lysell, packaged with another asset for the player.
Which, might be too much considering how thin the Bruins' prospect pool is.
It'd be a great addition if Don Sweeney could figure out how to swing it, if he doesn't trade significant assets for him.
I'm only thinking of who else could go with Merkulov, or Lysell, maybe Dean Letourneau?
Either way, bring in a third team to lessen the burden on an already struggling team.
