The Boston Bruins forward group is looking a bit thin, the most recent decision of sending Matthew Poitras to the AHL seemed inadvisable.

However, there's been news of a fire sale in Pittsburgh, as everyone has been made available by GM Kyle Dubas.

The same Dubas who had been unable to build a team that could defeat the Bruins, and now Don Sweeney could do some major wheeling and dealing which could bolster the Bruin's forward core.

One of these three players the Bruins should target with precision is Russian center Evgenii Malkin.

Not only does it create a deeper lineup down the middle, but you have a veteran presence who has won cups in the NHL.

Pittsburgh would be getting a player with size and potential and while he is struggling to start the season, is coming off a career 40-point season in 2023-24, which may be intriguing to Dubas. There may be some salary retention needed or throwing in another expiring contract in Morgan Geekie along with Boston's 2025 first-round pick to get this across the finish line.

While Don Sweeney would have to find a way to fit his cap hit in the organization, if Sweeney should be able to make it work somehow. The major positive of this would be if the Bruins do make a trade, they would still control his rights for a year at he's paid a handsome $6.1 million AAV.

The Penguins are expecting NHLers in return for players, and with news of Brandon Carlo, Trent Frederic, and Morgan Geekie being in trade talks, could they be a package deal?

It's a good idea that Dubas will ask for assets including, someone like Geekie or Frederic should the deal go through.

The cost may be high, but considering the fact it costs money to make it to the playoffs every year, it's assumed Sweeney has Jeremy Jacobs backing to make intriguing moves like this one.

Yes, this might be a massive long shot, but no sense in ignoring it without at least entertaining the possibility. Without question, Evgeni Malkin is going to be one of the most sought-after players for teams trying to capitalize on Pittsburgh selling their assets and for good reason. Even at 39 years old, Malkin is still producing at a high level, scoring five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 17 games this season, a season after he put up 67 points in 82 games and two years after an 83-point campaign in 82 games in 2022-23.

Malkin will be going to the highest-bidder, and if I wanted to win, the Bruins should target Malkin before anyone else.
