Bruins star forward Morgan Geekie comments on proving haters wrong: "Nobody though i was going to do it"
Morgan Geekie is loving the fact that he is considered an underdog in the Boston Bruins organization, and is ready to prove haters wrong once again.
Last season, Morgan Geekie ended up scoring 33 goals for the Boston Bruins, and certified himself into the Bruins top-six, something many did not believe was going to happen.
A lot of people doubted Geekie's game, believing he wouldn't be able to score 30 goals, and Geekie had no problem shoving it into their faces during a media scrum.
Before last season, Geekie's career high in goals was 17, which he scored with the Boston Bruins just the previous season.
"I'm sure nobody that's interviewing me now thought I was going to score 33 goals last year," Geekie said, in response to a question from Connor Ryan about his odds of scoring 30+goals again.
The former third round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft started his career in the AHL through an amateur tryout contract. Eventually this led to the Hurricanes signing him to his entry level deal.
Geekie was then selected by the Seattle Kraken during the expansion draft after appearing in just 38 games with the Hurricanes.
After two seasons with the Kraken, Geekie's potential never took shape, scoring just 22, and 28 point seasons with them.
Bruins took a chance on Geekie
The Kraken decided to let Geekie walk during the 2023 free agency class, where the Bruins ended up signing him to a two-year, $4 million deal. When given a chance on the top line with
David Pastrnak, Geekie proved to everyone that he could be an offensive threat.
Pastrnak can make anyone look good, but Geekie's style perfectly complimented Pastrnak's, and they created really good chemistry together.
Geekie was rewarded by the Bruins for this, signing a six-year, $5.5 million deal this off-season after scoring his first 30-plus goal season, and 50-plus point season.
At one point in time, many believed that he wouldn't be able to score 30 goals in his career, but now, the question is can he do it again?
