A recent announcement just revealed that a former member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization has passed away at the age of 38 after losing his battle to brain cancer.

Back in 2013, Wade MacLeod was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer after suffering a hit in a game for the Columbus Blue Jackets affiliate team, the Springfield Falcons.
At the time it was deemed non-cancerous, and doctors ended up removing a golf-ball sized tumor from the left side of the brian, but it caused him to lose his ability to speak.
While undergoing treatments, and despite the challenges he faced, MacLeod ended up continuing to play professional hockey for several years.
In 2018 that all came to an end after he ended up suffering multiple seizures that would end his hockey career.
Shockingly, he went on to play hockey once again in 2021 with the EIHL's Manchester Storm in the UK.
He would play just 7 games before having it come to an end once again due to his health.
The ECHL ended up issuing a statement, confirming the passing of the 38-year-old.

ECHL issues a statement on MacLeod's passing

"The ECHL and its member teams mourn the loss and express their condolences to the family and friends of former ECHL player Wade MacLeod, who passed away following a long battle with brain cancer at the age of 38.

MacLeod had 108 points (57g-51a) in 104 career ECHL games with Evansville (2012-13), Orlando (2013-14), Idaho (2014-15) and Allen (2016-17). He also saw extensive time in the American Hockey League with Springfield and Toronto, while playing overseas for teams in Germany and the United Kingdom.

He is survived by his wife, Karly, and their two daughters."

Everyone at Bruins Insider is sending their condolences to the family, friends, loved ones, and anyone affected by this heartbreaking news.
Rest in Peace, Wade.
