As the excitement of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs takes center stage, there's another story brewing for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff reported that 11 NHL teams are facing salary cap penalties next season.The Edmonton Oilers are facing the biggest hit with a penalty of $3.45 million, while six other teams will be hit with penalties exceeding $1 million.
Seravalli's report highlights that this marks a record number of teams facing penalties of $1 million or more. Some teams were aware of these penalties because they spent money they expected to have next season. However, for others, it came as a surprise.

These penalties occur when players reach certain milestones or goals during the season. For instance, scoring 20 goals might trigger a bonus for a player.
