Marchand Quote From 2018 Explains Why He Stood Up For Bergeron
Brad Marchand once again proved that he's the ultimate teammate, when he took exception to a high hit on Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron, without thinking twice.
Canadiens forward Rem Pitlick caught an unsuspecting Bergeron with a late, and somewhat of a blindside hit. Although, he didn't appear injured, Marchand immediately stepped up for his captain and jumped Pitlick. (see below)Owning Up to His Words
Back in April of 2018, Marchand released an emotional write up through the The Players' Tribune, titled Built For Boston, which takes a deep dive into the early years of his career.
But the part that stands out, is when he mentions Bergeron and how he would do anything to protect him:
‘'So I watched Patrice from day one, and I saw the ultimate professional. I don't have many rules I live by, but one of my rules is: If you say anything bad about my brother, or about Patrice Bergeron, I'll fight you. The guy is simply unbelievable. I've watched him play with broken bones, a punctured lung a freaking punctured lung.''
Marchand noted that Claude Julien - Bruins head coach at the time - was the one who told him to play the game, and carry himself, like Patrice Bergeron.
The duo has now spent the past 14 seasons together in Boston, winning a Stanley Cup in 2011, and hopefully another one this year!
