An NHL insider has unveiled that the Boston Bruins former veteran and captain, Brad Marchand, missed out on a massive contract that was on the table during this year's free agency.
The Boston Bruins' former captain,
Brad Marchand, who departed from the organization earlier this year, during the 2025 Trade Deadline, that was held in March.
This unexpected trade concluded in the veteran landing in Florida, where he quickly became the next addition to the Panthers organization.
However, although Marchand's departure was saddening, many Bruins fans continued to be optimistic of his return, due to the fact that his contract at the time was expiring.
Fast forward to the postseason, Brad Marchand's name was an extremely hot topic, and as Bruins fans held tight hoping for the 16-year veteran to sign his next contract in Boston, it was announced moments prior to free agency that he signed a new deal with the Florida Panthers.
However, new insight has surfaced by an NHL insider, Chris Johnston, revealing that the Marchand would have allegedly earned $10M average annual value (AAV) away from Florida.
«Someone even told me $10m AAV the day before he signed», said Johnston on his own show.
While Johnston never revealed which organization was ready to offer this immense annual salary to Marchand, it was later reported by James Murphy of RG.org that the Utah Mammoth was allegedly ready to go all in for Marchand if he hit free agency on July 1st.
«Utah was ready to beat any offer for Marchand,» an NHL source told RG. «I was told $9.5-10 million cap hit per season. I know Marchand was starting at four years with the Panthers and planned to do the same if he hit the market. So, it had to be at least that if he got there.»
Although it is uncertain which organization was willing to offer a massive chunk of money to Marchand that Johnston was hinting at, all fingers are pointing towards the Mammoth.
Do you think it was the Utah Mammoth's that were willing to offer the Boston Bruins' former veteran and captain $10M AAV?
