One of them was Fabian Lysell, who was thought to be a sure bet to win the 2nd line right-wing position the team desperately needed.
He may have had a slow start to the preseason, but would show up against the Capitals, with a power-play goal during the 4-2 win.
The move was most surprising, as it seems the Bruins will need what to do, when it comes to Lysell whether it results in him becoming a full-time NHLer or becoming trade bait for a rebuilding team elsewhere.
Lysell played in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, scoring 50 points( 15 G, 35 A) in 56 games.
It seems he has nothing left to prove in the AHL, and will have to once again slog through another AHL season in order to get a shot again next year, as three preseason games doesn't seem like enough to win a spot on the roster.
Among those sent down to the AHL, was forward Georgii Merkulov who posted two assists in three preseason games.
Merkulov posted 65 points( 30 G, 35 A) in 67 games with the Providence B's, so again this move is puzzling.
These two forwards seemed like they'd be set to make the Bruins lineup considering the lack of depth up front.
What kind of magic is Sweeney working? Or is it another case of counting chickens before they hatch?
