The Boston Bruins will have to consider who to prioritize in a trade before the retool begins, could one of those players be forward Morgan Geekie?

The Bruins can consider the playoffs out of reach at this point in the season as the trade deadline marches near.
They will have to consider retooling the lineup as the team could move multiple players this year.
One of those could be former 39-point scorer, Morgan Geekie. Geekie had a career year in Boston during the 2023-2024 season under Jim Montgomery.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned that fans should keep an eye on Geekie during the 32 Thoughts Podcast.
"It will be interesting to see what they do with Morgan Geekie," Friedman said. "There is another year of team control, although RFA... I think there were some attempts to try to extend him this year, which, obviously, didn't happen. I'd be curious to see where that one goes with him."

Geekie is an RFA and would remain under team control should they decide to keep him.
But as he is just now entering his prime, and has a team-friendly contract, there could be a lot to gain from trading him.
However, at the same time, his trade value is undoubtedly high right now. He has played spectacularly down the stretch, posting 10 goals and 14 points over his last 18 games. He also scored a career-high 19 goals this season and has 32 points in 57 contests.

It all depends on GM Don Sweeney's direction for the Bruins as he needs to figure out whether the team will be getting younger, or adding more Stanley Cup-winning pieces with the assets they acquire in March or July.
Right now, Geekie has a fair amount of value and could garner some decent assets at the trade deadline. He has a higher point-per-game (P/G) average so far this season (0.56) than Tyler Bertuzzi did in 2022-23 (.48) before the Bruins gave up a first-round draft pick and a fourth-round pick to acquire him.

Geekie's 2-year, $2 million dollar deal expires at the end of the 2024-2025 season, and for the Bruins to retain his rights they'll have to tender a qualifying offer of $2 million according to PuckPedia.
