Don Sweeney will be the General Manager for team Canada
Don Sweeney is set to lead Team Canada in the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off next year. Pierre LeBrun, a TSN Hockey Insider, reports that the Boston Bruins' general manager will officially be named as Team Canada's GM this Friday.
The tournament, happening from February 12th to 20th, 2025, will feature Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland, replacing the All-Star Game. It serves as a preview for the 2026 Winter Olympics, where Sweeney is expected to join Canada's management group led by Doug Armstrong.
Team Canada will name its GM today for the NHL's Four Nations best-on-best event being played next February.
I believe Don Sweeney will be named Four Nations GM for Canada.
The expectation is that he will also be part of Doug Armstrong's Olympic management group.
Sweeney, from St. Stephen, New Brunswick, has been the Bruins' GM since 2015, earning NHL General Manager of the Year in 2019. As a former NHL defenseman, he played over 1,100 games in 16 seasons, mostly with the Bruins. Sweeney also helped Team Canada win gold at the 1997 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
