Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery just issued a unexpected statement amid the Bruins struggles.
Calling the Bruins' start to the 2024-25 season «sluggish» might be putting it lightly. Sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with a 4-6-1 record and a minus-13 goal differential, Boston has struggled, especially during their recent 1-4-1 slide.
After Thursday's tough 8-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, many expected head coach Jim Montgomery to be frustrated and critical of his team. But instead, he shared a different perspective with the media:
«We've had a lot of success the past two years,» Montgomery explained. «We were at the top of the league by Thanksgiving both years, but we still fell short of our goals. Right now, we're not where we want to be, and no one's happy with that. But we'll get through this and come out stronger, and hopefully, that will lead to better results when the playoffs come around.»
Last season, the Bruins entered November with an 8-0-1 record and a plus-15 goal differential, ultimately finishing second in the Atlantic before a disappointing second-round playoff exit against the Panthers.
Jim Montgomery, Trent Frederic, and David Pastrnak spoke with the media following the #NHLBruins loss to the Canes.
The Bruins are now aiming to work through this early slump, taking lessons from previous years and hoping to build momentum. They'll look to start turning things around when they face the Flyers in Philadelphia on Saturday.
