Joe Sacco and the Boston Bruins have had a good start to his tenure, albeit one game.

It's been one game, with Sacco behind the bench and the team won a game against the Utah Hockey Club, with a 1-0 score. Elias Lindholm was the one to end the HC's hopes that night.

With news of an upstart Bruins under new leadership, Head Coach Joe Sacco isn't taking his foot off the gas.

He's sent a message through the media to the team, and it addresses his priorities of play.

K.I.S.S. is the terminology we'd use, keep it simple stupid, and use the fundamentals.

«It's being harder to play against,» Sacco said Wednesday of Boston's first order of business. «I want teams to know again that it's going to be hard to score goals against us. Our offense will come.

«There's enough players in here that are going to score goals, and I think the focus has been too much on that. Let's focus on keeping the puck out of our net, being hard to play against, and I'm very confident that this group will score goals.»

It sounds like that is Sacco's mandate is to tweak the team to where it plays like a well-oiled machine. But not bog it down in flashy play styles, but just good, disciplined hockey.

Which is the antidote, for a sub- .500 hockey team, like the Bruins.

«It always feels different when there's a new coach on the bench,» Brad Marchand said after Thursday's win. «There's a couple good things that we tweaked. Mindsets, I think, were the biggest thing.»

Sacco has emphasized the importance of sound defensive play in order to allow Joonas Korpisalo to breathe while staying ahead of the puck to control the game.

Sacco's first outing as the new coach of the Bruins has been a successful endeavor, but can he keep it going?

His coaching record is as follows 294 games coached with the Colorado Avalanche from 2009-2013. His record of 130-134-30 has yielded a .333 record, not a winning record by any means.

Could he turn it around in Boston, and prove he's got what it takes to have the interim title removed?
