The Boston Bruins and Don Sweeney have decided to head into the NHL trade deadline with their heads held high.

They're tightening the ranks, despite all the speculation regarding the Bruins' current situation.

This could be a good thing or could be bad, as they look to add talent soon.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned there are some lingering feelings left from the Swayman deal in the organization.

The Bruins have significant holes in the lineup with not only the team lacking a legitimate goal-scorer other than David Pastrnak, but they lack reliable defense as well.

As much as Boston needs more of a scoring punch, Friedman pointed out that adding a «forward with edge» would be hard on the NHL trade market, where they are «highly coveted» by sellers.

Friedman also thinks there's a huge amount of movement in the Bruins organization to change things up.

«There's definitely a lot of intensity in Boston,» said Friedman.

There's been plenty of speculation to go around regarding the team's next move. One storyline to pay attention to is Jim Montgomery's situation, as he's on an expiring contract, and hasn't been able to deliver a solid product on the ice.

And given how frugal owner Jeremy Jacobs is with cash, it'd be an easy move to let Montgomery walk, given how much interest he'd have from other teams.

But in the meantime, Sweeney has a mandate to build a winning roster, and with an 8-8-3 record in the Atlantic Division, the Bruins are less than stellar.

They have no identity, and no cohesion as a unit.

Why is that?
