NHL's most trusted insider just leaked some details we previously didn't know about Jim Montgomery's firing with the Boston Bruins.
Last Tuesday the Boston Bruins decided to fire Jim Montgomery and replace him with Joe Sacco. There was rumours that the Bruins had an extension in place for Montgomery, but he reportedly turned it down, and now we have some details regarding it.
Elliotte Friedman has come out and revealed that reportedly the Boston Bruins had a three-year extension in place for Jim Montgomery, but thinks that he ultimately turned it down due to having a different approach, and philosophy then the Bruins front office had.
Here is what Friedman had to say:
Just five days after being fired by the Boston Bruins, the St. Louis Blues hired him as head coach and the Blues went on to beat the New York Rangers in his debut yesterday 5-2.
Jim Montgomery did a great job head coaching the Boston Bruins and his record speaks for itself. He had a 120-43-21 record as head coach of the Boston Bruins, and even went on to set the record for most wins in a single season during the 2022-23 season when the Bruins won 63 games.
Personally I think Jim Montgomery being fired was just done to save Don Sweeney's job. He was feeling the heat, and what better to do then point the blame onto someone else. Fans also believe that Don Sweeney and Cam Neely should have been held accountable over Jim Montgomery.
