There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Joonas Korpisalo's fate with the Boston Bruins, now a top replacement for him and the Boston Bruins has surfaced.
Today it was reported that the Montreal Canadiens decided to cut ties with a very promising goaltender, and it could end up benefiting the Boston Bruins.
NHL teams had to make qualifying offers to players before June 1st, and the Montreal Canadiens opted to not offer one to 6-foot-7 goaltender
Joe Vrbetic, who was a draft pick of the organization during the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
The 22-year-old has had some impressive seasons the past couple of years at the ECHL level, and is now expected to look for a new team during the off-season.
A big reason to why the Montreal Canadiens did not offer a qualifying offer to Vrbetic is possibly due to how they have such a deep prospect pool, and doesn't stand as much of a chance to the other goaltenders in the organization.
Vrbetic is knowing for having a calm deminar between the pipes, which goes well with his 6-foot-7, 190lbs frame.
Bruins To Replace Korpisalo?
If the Boston Bruins do end up trading Korpi, Vrbetic would be a great option for the Bruins to consider to replace him.
According to Hawks Insider, the Boston Bruins are a team that could be very much interested in him, along with the New York Rangers, and Minnesota Wild:
Other teams, such as the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers or the Minnesota Wild could capitalize on the Canadiens' rich prospect pool, and acquire Vrbetic.
Once July 1st comes around, he will officially be looking for a team to sign with.
