Experienced NHL goaltender Jaroslav Halak is on the verge of inking a deal with the Colorado Avalanche.

This move comes as Avalanche backup Pavel Francouz is sidelined due to a lingering hip injury sustained in the offseason, with potential for an extended absence. NHL insider Frank Seravalli had previously hinted at the Avalanche's search for a seasoned backup to support their starting goalie, Alexandar Georgiev. It seems Halak is the chosen candidate for this role.

Adrian Dater, an insider closely tied to the Avalanche, had also indicated the team's interest in Halak. Furthermore, Czech-based reporter Tomas Prokop has confirmed this development. An official announcement from the Avalanche regarding Halak's signing is anticipated in the coming days.

At 38 years old, Halak demonstrated his capabilities in the NHL last season, playing 25 games for the New York Rangers. He posted respectable stats with a 2.72 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
