In the middle of a really important playoff series, the Boston Bruins had to make big decisions for Game 5 at their home arena, TD Garden. Even though they had just won two games in a row in Toronto, their coach, Jim Montgomery, decided to shake things up.
Instead of sticking with the same players who had been winning, Montgomery made two changes to the lineup. Matt Grzelcyk came back in after not playing since Game 2, replacing Kevin Shattenkirk on defense. And
Justin Brazeau got a spot on the fourth line instead of
John Beecher.
Montgomery said he made these changes to try to improve the team's chances based on matchups and player history. But unfortunately, the changes didn't work out the way he hoped.
The Bruins ended up losing in overtime, giving the Maple Leafs a chance to tie it back in Toronto. Grzelcyk's defense wasn't strong enough, especially in overtime, and Brazeau couldn't make up for Beecher's absence in face-offs.
Now, with the series up for grabs, Montgomery and his team have to figure out the best lineup for the next game. They're determined to bounce back and take control again, but they'll need to make smart choices to make it happen.
