As free agency approaches, it seems like there are more and more rumors coming out about the top available free agent in Mitch Marner, and now it has been reported that he may be joining former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand.
Ever since Marner's comments at the end of year press conference, his future with the organization has been unclear, but now a new rumor that has surfaced may hurt Maple Leafs fans even more.
Marner Set To Join The Panthers?
According to Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, he stated that there is some talks coming around that Marner may sign with the Florida Panthers:
"There's real smoke that the Florida Panthers could be gearing up to make a run at Marner.
The Panthers, for their credit, are known for their aggressive swings. And this would certainly fall under that category. Marner moves out of the pressure cooker of Toronto to the sunny disposition of Florida with its tax-free status, immaculate vibes, and constant Cup contention."

How Would It Work?
It may be hard for the Panthers to fit Marner's contract under the cap, especially considering Sam Bennett and Aaron Ekblad are set to be unrestricted free agents, but since it is a no-tax state, the Florida Panthers may be able to acquire Marner at a discount.
Marner is no doubt an all-star in the league whenever it comes to the regular season, but he has had a hard time performing in the playoffs, and the Panthers may not want to pay $12-14 million for a player that can't live up to the hype.
It will be interesting to see where Marner ends up whenever free agency opens up.
