There were a lot of questions surrounding Brad Marchand's future after winning the Stanley Cup with the Panthers, but new details revealed he almost signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After winning their second Stanley Cup, there were talks about how the Panthers weren't going to be able to keep all their players around due to not having enough money.
Between Sam Bennett, Brad Marchand, and Aaron Ekblad, there was a belief that one or two of them would not be able to stick with the team.
Somehow, the Panthers were able to keep all three players this off-season.

Marchand nearly signed with the Maple Leafs

Marchand stated that because Florida is a tex-free State, it played a big role in them being able to keep all three players.
Former teammate, Brandon Carlo has revealed that there was some interest from Marchand in signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
When speaking with Sportsnet's Luke Fox, Carlo admitted that he tried to convince Marchand to sign with the Leafs if he hit free agency.
"I had talked to him, and there had been conversations there, and I felt like he definitely had that interest to come here. Ultimately, it didn't end up that way. But that would have been fantastic. Now we're just gonna have to compete against him and hopefully beat him here soon."

There were rumors that Marchand could also return back to the Boston Bruins if he did not land a contract with the Panthers.
Ultimately he ended revealing that he did not want anything below a three year contract, and the Bruins wouldn't offer him anything over that.
So he signed a six-year, $5.5 million deal to stay with the Florida Panthers.
