It seems like the Toronto Maple Leafs will be without a goaltender to begin the season as it was just reported that Joseph Woll will be taking a leave from the organization.

NHL insider Chris Johnston confirmed that Woll will be stepping away from the team, and it will take place immediately.

Woll leaves the team for a family matter

According to multiple sources, Woll has been granted a leave of absence due to a family matter.
This was reported right before the Toronto Maple Leafs were set to take the ice for practice this morning.
The #leafs announce that goaltender Joseph Woll is taking a personal leave of absence from the team.
Right after this report came out, General Manager Brad Treliving confirmed that this does not have anything to do with substance abuse.
Joseph Woll will be taking a leave of absence from the Maple Leafs to deal with a personal matter, Brad Treliving tells us.

No timeline for his return. Treliving made clear it is not a substance issue but offered no further information as to the nature of the issue.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has since confirmed that it is a family matter for Woll.

The Toronto @MapleLeafs said today goaltender Joseph Woll is taking a leave of absence from the team to attend to a personal family matter.
The organization has also issued their own statement now, and backed up Seravalli's report, confirming the family matter.
This is a huge loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and hopefully it's nothing too serious for Woll and his family.
