Alex Ovechkin Confirms When He Will Retire
In a recent Russian interview, Washington Capitals' star Alexander Ovechkin dropped a bombshell regarding his future in hockey.
When asked if he plans to retire after his current contract expires, Ovechkin confirmed he will indeed hang up his skates, at the latest, by the end of the 2026 season.
The Capitals blog RMNB shared Ovechkin's response, where he explicitly stated his retirement plans. Surprisingly, Ovechkin also ruled out a potential return to the KHL, marking a definitive end to his illustrious career.
With 834 goals in 1396 NHL games, Ovechkin's pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's goal record remains a focal point as he nears the twilight of his career.
