Now that veterans Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are officially signed, the Boston Bruins number one priority is to sign star forward David Pastrnak to an extension.

General manager Don Sweeney spoke to the media yesterday about the status of Pasta's contract talks:

''I don't publicly comment on negotiations. Conversations are ongoing. As far as entering the season without a deal, we have no problem with it.''

''Ongoing would be the best way to describe it. We've been in regular contact with JP. We've made our intentions known all along to David, and we'll continue to do that.''

However, Bruins insider Joe Haggarty has reported what the price is likely to be for the club to get an extension done. @allhockeyculture shared on Instagram:

''RUMOR - According to Joe Haggerty, the next contract for David Pastrnak could very well be north of $10M for the max term 💰👀

Haggerty notes that Pastrnak is likely to ask for/be worth what Huberdeau received this off-season with the Calgary Flames (8-year, $10.5M AAV), while the team is looking to sign him to something closer to what Johnny Gaudreau received with the Columbus Blue Jackets (7-year, $9.75M AAV) in order to keep a contract of $10M+ off the books.

It's currently unclear whether or not Pastrnak wants to commit to the Bruins for the rest of his career, and talks are considered «ongoing», but not close.

It's nearly fully expected that a contract will be unsigned when the 2022-23 regular season begins.

Thoughts? Will Pastrnak end up hitting the open market after one last season with the B's?''
