The 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship began yesterday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
Team USA's first game of the tournament was the night cap of the day, and they faced off against Team Germany in preliminary round play.
The first period was highlighted by a match penalty to Germany's Bennet Rossmy for an 'Illegal Check to the Head' of U.S. forward Dominic James. Watch the hit below:
Rossmy was given a total of 25 penalty minutes and a game misconduct on the play, as IIHF has zero tolerance for high hits.
