Is Alex Formenton now ineligible to play this season?
It has been confirmed The Ottawa Senators have failed to sign Barrie, Ontario native, 23 year old left winger Alex Formenton.
The two parties involved had until 5 p.m. ET on Thursday to come to an agreement. However, Formenton is now ineligible to play in the NHL for the rest of the current season.
Mr. Formenton played for the gold winning team Canada during the 2018 IIHF world junior championship where he put up a respectable 4 points in 7 games.
Formenton had breakthrough NHL season last year, with 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points in 79 games.
According to Sportsnet, there were attempts to trade the young forward before the trade deadline but nothing came of it.
I believe Alex is a talented player who could be a solid top 9 forward. Will a team snag the 23 year old forward in a trade despite his ineligibility to play for the remainder of the year. Well that's a question that only time can answer.
