Boston Bruins president Cam Neely spoke to the media Thursday morning to discuss the 2021-22 season and his plans for the near future.

There are going to be some Bruins fans that aren't going to like what he announced as one of his main focuses. Neely said that his and ownership's intention is to hammer out an extension for general manager Don Sweeney in the near future.

One question asked by the media was, "Why did the Bruins go into the season with Sweeney on an expiring deal?" In which Neely replied, «I wanted to see how the year went.» Neely said that the conversation with Sweeney on a new contract began after March 21st because he was pleased with the Bruins' 2022 Trade Deadline, in which Sweeney basically only acquired defenseman Hampus Lindholm.

Watch a piece of Cam Neely's press conference here:

Neely discussed how he liked Don Sweeney's trade deadline, but what about his history of draft picks with the Boston Bruins. Sweeney has had 43 draft picks as the Bruins' general manager, and here's how they've panned out:

-Only five of them have played more than 100 NHL games.
-Only 3 became full-time players: Jake Debrusk, Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy.
- Sweeney has had 21 of those draft picks since 2018, and none of them have played an NHL game from then till now

Cam Neely was also asked about Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy:
