A couple of days ago, news broke revealing that Russian players and the National Hockey Team will not be allowed to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics that is going to be hosted in Milano Cortina, ruining the hopes for Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov.
The reason for the Russian team being held out of major sporting events is due to the ongoing fight with Ukraine.
Nikita Zadorov Hoped To Play During The Olympics
It's a dream for any hockey player to go and play for their country during the Olympics, but the Olympic Committee has decided to keep them banned with everything going on right now.
With what's been going on, it's likely that Russia will continue to be held out of major tournaments, and even minor ones as they have not appeared in any sporting events in a long time.
Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov would have had the chance to go on to represent his country at the Olympics for the first time, but now he will have to wait and hope they are allowed in the next time the Winter Olympics comes around.
Zadorov is the only Russian born player on the Boston Bruins roster, so everyone else will not affected by this news, but it's heartbreaking that politics are holding them out of being able to perform on the biggest stage for their home country.
He lead the Boston Bruins, and the league in penalty minutes this season with 145, and had a pretty impressive first year with the team.
Zadorov scored 4 goals, and had 18 assists for 22 points he was also a plus-25 on the year on a very bad Boston Bruins team.
