Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers officially emerge as trade partners involving one special asset
The Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers are officially set to combine as trading partners, and it could involve a goaltender on the move.
As many know, the Boston Bruins organization's net is currently overcrowded with talent, and although that sounds like a good thing, they might just benefit from transforming a netminder into a trading asset.
The Bruins had a tough run last campaign, as they began the season with expectations to be massive contenders, yet completed the season with the departure of fan favorites and quickly made their way into the NHL basement.
Due to the unfortunate turn for Boston, they officially began a re-tool, and in hopes of completing a full turnaround for next season, plenty of rumors and speculations have linked the organization to departing with a massive trade asset to fasten their rebuilding process.
And this trade asset has been suggested to be one of their goaltenders.
The Boston Bruins are suggested to depart with one of their netminders 's this offseason
At the moment, the Bruins have three promising NHL-level netminders on their roster:
However, one of these talents has surfaced as a trade candidate due to his extremely underwhelming season last year.
Not only did Swayman have a brutal campaign last season, recording 22-29-7 with a 3.11 GAA and a .892 SV%, which ultimately led the Boston Bruins to miss postseason contention for the first time since the 2015/16 season, but backup netminder
Joonas Korpisalo voiced that he wants to take on a full-time role and proved he might just have what it takes.
That being said, Korpisalo was
11-10-3 last season with a 2.90 GAA and a .893 SV%, and he only endured 24 starts, meaning he's proved he has what it takes to at least break even with Swayman's numbers.
Additionally, Michael DiPietro might just be what the Boston Bruins need for next season, a fresh, talented face in the net who's shown he has what it takes to be a useful asset to the organization, especially following last year's campaign.
Edmonton Oiler's are linked to acquiring Boston Bruins' net-minder Jeremy Swayman
Jeremy Swayman's no-movement clause begins at the start of the upcoming season, meaning if the Boston Bruins intend to depart with this expensive netminder, now might just be the time to use him as a trade asset.
That being said, the Edmonton Oilers have surfaced as potential trade candidates to take Swayman off the Bruins' hands, as they are in dire need of a starting netminder.
