Boston Bruins Officially Reveal Their Ideal Plan With Captain Brad Marchand

The Boston Bruins more than likely are going to miss the playoffs this season, and speculation has surfaced that captain Brad Marchand could be on the move if they do.
With how the season has gone, Brad Marchand's name has surfaced in a lot of trade rumours, especially considering he is set to be a unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.
This upcoming off-season the Bruins have eight players that are set to be unrestricted free agents, but Brad Marchand is easily the most notable one.
The fact that the Bruins have not signed Brad Marchand to a contract extension yet has started most of this speculation that he could be traded near the trade deadline.
With that said, the Bruins ideal plans with their captain have been revealed according to The Hockey News.
Three paths the Bruins could take with Brad Marchand
Their ideal path with Brad Marchand would obviously be to re-sign him.
If the Boston Bruins were to sign Brad Marchand to an extension right now, that would completely end the speculation of him being traded. He is still considered one of their best players.
Marchand, even at 36-years-old is still one of the Bruins best players, ranking second on the team with 19 goals, 24 assists for 43 points.
Their second path they could take with Marchand is keeping him as their own rental.
It's possible the Bruins could keep Marchand for the rest of the season without having a contract extension in place. This would make sense if they are going to make the playoffs.
Although this would be a risky play by the Bruins as they could easily lose him in free agency if they can't get a deal done before July 1st.
The last path the Bruins could take is to ultimately end up trading him and get a decent return to begin their re-tool.
If the Bruins were to trade Marchand, it would send shockwaves throughout the NHL. Marchand has been with the Bruins organization for his whole 16-year NHL career.
Brad Marchand has spoke on these rumours and stated that he can't control what the team does and his only focus right now is helping the Bruins make the playoffs.
