Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand could be playing in his last season with the team, as an insider has listed him as a possible early trade candidate.
Things have not been pretty for the Boston Bruins to start out the 2024-25 season. The Boston Bruins currently sit outside of a playoff spot and a insider reported that Marchand may be a top trade candidate for the Bruins.
Chris Johnston of The Athletic has reported that if the Boston Bruins don't turn things around soon, that their captain could emerge as a trade candidate for them.
Brad Marchand is currently playing in his final year of his contract and is set to become a UFA next year. Marchand signed an eight-year, $6.13 million contract with the Boston Bruins back in 2017, and now there is a good chance that he doesn't end the year with the Bruins.
Brad Marchand is having a pretty solid year for the Boston Bruins despite their struggles to generate offence. In 23 games the captain has registered six goals, nine assists for 15 points.
There was rumours earlier in the year that the Boston Bruins were close to a three-year extension with Brad Marchand, but when asked about it, the captain ended up shutting down those rumours.
Don Sweeney has stated that if things don't change for the Bruins that he will make some roster changes, but it's hard to see the Bruins moving on from their captain.
Although if the Bruins were to trade Brad Marchand they would definitely get a good return for him.
