Completed trade between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators: A major turn of events just surfaced
There was a rumor for awhile before Don Sweeney actually ended up parting ways with Linus Ullmark. Due to Swayman's contract being up, and needing a new deal, the Bruins did not want to invest over $13 million into their goaltending situation.
Ullmark was traded within the Atlantic Division, which definitely was not a good move by Don Sweeney, but what shocked people more was the return the Bruins got.
Although it's only been one season, many have questioned what if Sweeney would have traded Ullmark to a different team.
Who won the trade between the Bruins and Senators?
Before acquiring Ullmark, the Senators were not able to become a playoff team. Their goaltending situation turned from a weak spot, to a strength just from adding Linus Ullmark.
Ullmark is now locked up with the Senators, and made the playoffs after just acquiring him last off-season.
In his first season with the Senators,
Ullmark ended up going 25-14-3 with a 2.72 goals against average, and a .910 save percentage.
For the Boston Bruins,
Jeremy Swayman had a terrible season, leading to the Boston Bruins selling at the NHL trade deadline, and beginning a retool.
One year after the trade, the Senators turned everything around making the Stanley Cup Playoffs, while the Boston Bruins finished last in the Eastern Conference.
At the end of the day, this was a terrible trade for Sweeney to make, especially because he ended up helping a divisional rival that had been struggling to make the playoffs.
