Don Cherry Speaks Out On The Firing Of Boston Bruins Top Head Coach Candidate John Tortorella

There is some speculation that John Tortorella is the top head coach candidate for the Boston Bruins, and after his firing by the Philadelphia Flyers, former Bruins head coach Don Cherry shared his opinion on the matter.
There is some belief that John Tortorella was fired by the Philadelphia Flyers after having an altercation with defenseman Cam York, and now Don Cherry has expressed his opinion on the situation.
Last Thursday, the Flyers fired Tortorella after him and Cam York had an altercation during their game on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Multiple reports revealed that things were getting out of control on both sides, and that both sides ended up crossing boundaries, ultimately leading to Tortorella being fired.
Because of this, when Brad Shaw took over as interim head coach, Cam York was benched for the entire game.
The Flyers originally wanted to healthy scratch him and play a man short, but the NHL rules do not allow a team to voluntarily play a man short so York dressed for the game, but was benched for the entire 60 minutes.
Cherry Shares His Opinion
During one of his podcast episodes, Don Cherry did shared his opinion on the firing of John Tortorella.
"Yeah. And he had an argument with Cam York. I guess that was the final straw. Losing takes a toll. I remember sitting outside a branch, and I said to the branch, 'These guys are trying just as hard.' It had nothing to do with effort. I mean, they were just getting beaten down."

Tortorella's comments after their 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs definitely also played a big role in the Flyers firing him.
He will be an interesting coach to keep an eye on as the Boston Bruins look for a new head coach in the off-season.
