It was opening day for NHL training camps including the Boston Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney explained a deadline that will determine if Jeremy Swayman will play this year.
The Bruins and Swayman's camp have until December 1st to lock in a new deal so that Swayman can play for the rest of the year. Anything past this date and he will not be allowed to play for the remainder of the year.
This ongoing contract dispute has put a wedge between both parties and has put significant pressure on the Bruins management as many felt this should have been completed prior to the start of training camp.
Swayman Has made it clear that he understands his value to the team, the NHL and what is comparable are. He feels he also has an obligation for other goaltenders that are up and coming to get the right deal for his type of talent. Some pundits have put different numbers like 6,000,000 per season, to $10 million per season.
With the Bruins trading away Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators while bringing back Joonas Korpisalo in return, the once great tandem of the Bruins does not exist and if a contract cannot be reached it will certainly change the outcome for the Bruins for years to come.
