The IIHF just made a massive announcement regarding a legend in the Boston Bruins organization, and he has been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
One of the Boston Bruins longest, and arguably best leaders in Zdeno Chara, just got a special honour from the IIHF following a recent announcement.
Today it was announcement that Zdeno Chara was inducted into the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.
Chara leads all NHL defenseman in games played by a defenseman with 1680 games played for 5 different organizations throughout his career.
He was also the captain of the Boston Bruins in 2011, where he lead the organization to a Stanley Cup Championship.
Chara also ended up winning two World Championship silvers with Slovakia.
During the 2021-22 season, Chara returned back to the organization that originally drafted him in the New York Islanders. After playing 72 games, scoring 2 goals, and picking up 14 points, Chara announced his retirement from the NHL.

«Since players have left, he's not here on a daily basis,» Sweeney said of Chara. «Continues to talk to players on his own accord. We don't set any boundaries in terms of Z [with] talking to our coaches and our players.
Don Sweeney spoke on Chara's role with the organization recently, and stated that he has been given an advisory role with the organization.
«We've given him some latitude as an advisory role and a mentor role as he sees fit. Establish relationships on his own terms. I think that will continue to evolve going forward with the new head coach, and we put that in place, and the rest of the staff. He'll develop that relationship moving forward and determine how much involvement he's going to have on that level.»
