The Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney's tenure has been tumultuous, with ups and downs along the way and could the next bump end his job?

GM Don Sweeney has helped push the Boston Bruins into the playoffs in eight of his nine seasons served with the team.
However, this year will be another year where the Bruins remain out of post-season competition.
Sweeney would take heat for trading Marchand to the Panthers, and fans would let TD Garden know how they felt with a chant "Fire Sweeney".
However, NHL Insider Mike Millbury thinks it's come down to the wire for Sweeney. Sweeney will have to overcome an obstacle that has troubled him as a GM his entire career in Boston.
Drafting.
From the first draft as GM in 2015 when he had three consecutive picks at 13, 14, and 15, drafting has not been a strong point for Sweeney.

Sweeney according to Millbury will have to knock it out the park with his next draft, as the Bruins prospect pool is one of the worst in the league, not counting players like Matthew Poitras, Fraser Minten, Michael DiPietro, Fabian Lysell, and Georgii Merkulov.
Mike Millbury, a former Bruins coach and analyst at NBC, thinks that Boston needs to try and best their kryptonite this summer, making strides in the NHL Entry Draft.

Instead of focusing on free agency ahead of the NHL draft on July 1st, Sweeney and company will have to do their homework on prospects available during the draft. It's a sensible critique from an NHL player and coach who has done it in the NHL before Sweeney ever did.
"Before they get to anything, they have to make sure that their drafting is as good as it's been in a long time,'' said Millbury. "I mean, they accumulated a few picks and they have a chance to start to pile up a few prospects. That doesn't mean you're gonna get better right away.''

So far Lysell and Poitras have played in the NHL, but have been unable to crack the lineup.
Along with the rest of his draft picks suffocating in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, while the current Bruins roster is stocked to the brim with 3rd-liners.
Why not let the kids play especially if you have someone like Minten and Merklulov in the AHL?
Regardless, Sweeney cannot miss at all during the 2025 NHL Draft.
