Boston Bruins Star Defenseman To Miss Championship Game As Team USA Confirms Devastating Injury

Earlier in the day both Elliotte Friedman and Team USA's head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that Matthew Tkachuk and Charlie McAvoy both will not be playing tonight in their game against Sweden.

Instead, Team USA is going with Jake Sanderson on defense and Chris Kreider will be taking Matthew Tkachuk's spot in the lineup.

Many were speculating that Charlie McAvoy was just sitting out to rest, and others believed that he could be dealing with an injury. Team USA confirmed the unfortunate news.

Many believed that McAvoy was just being rested tonight as the game does not matter after already clinching their spot in the finals, but that wasn't the case at all.

With Matthew Tkachuk already dealing with a lower-body injury, Team USA got more bad news as it was confirmed that defenseman Charlie McAvoy is now out as well because of a upper-body injury.

Charlie McAvoy has been a big part of Team USA's success early on in the tournament, creating a lot of momentum for USA, playing a lot of big minutes, and most importantly being solid on the back end.

McAvoy's biggest moment in the tournament was his massive hit on Canada's superstar Connor McDavid when he laid him out along the boards, which created momentum for USA and they scored the tying goal not long after.

This would be a massive loss for Team USA if McAvoy is not able to dress up for the championship game.
