On Tuesday, the Washington Capitals announced major news, as captain Alexander Ovechkin taken a personal leave from the organization.
According to reports, it was initially expected that Ovechkin would miss at least the upcoming week, but details surrounding his departure were limited by the club.
This morning, however, Ovie took to his personal Instagram account to share the heartbreaking reason he was forced to take a leave of absence.
''Today lost my father ... I thank everyone for the support but please be understanding and do not disturb my family in this difficult time for us! Thank you.''
Losing a parent is always difficult and Ovechkin has always been open about to closeness with his father.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Ovechkin family at this time.
